Day 2 — Rubio’s Ride, Alamogordo to Ruidoso
Rubio’s Ride Day 2 of 7: Today I climbed 3600ft, and descended (eventually) into Ruidoso. It was one of the toughest rides yet. But as cars and trucks whizzed by me, I wondered a lot about their stories, what their Sunday was looking like for them. Were they traveling? Running late for mass? Heading to work? Going to meet family for an impromptu bbq because the weather was so nice? I have the upmost privilege of getting to see my home state, and visit communities in ways I never thought I could. I’m super grateful for a lot tonight. I don’t think there’s really an impossible climb to climb—just gotta take it slow and steady. That’s what I’m reflecting on tonight, as I get ready to descend into southeast New Mexico—and as I prepare for yet another legislative session.
